CEV Privacy Notice
Confédération Européenne de Volleyball (CEV) and its subsidiaries (“we/us”, “CEV”) are data controllers and recognise the importance of protecting the fundamental rights of the players and persons associated with them (for example, a club’s or national team’s coaching, technical and medical staff) (also referred to as “you/your”), including with regard to their personal data.
The purpose of this Privacy Notice is to provide information and ensure transparency about the way your personal data is processed at CEV.
CEV is committed to complying with data protection laws, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of your personal data, while respecting your privacy. The commitments described here uphold CEV’s values and principles of action, and comply with applicable Luxembourgish and European legislation.

I- CEV privacy notice for users and customers
- PRIVACY POLICY COVERAGE
This Privacy Policy covers the CEV’s collection and processing of personal data. This Privacy Policy also covers the CEV's collection and processing of any personal data that the CEV's partners share with CEV, unless otherwise stated.
- THE CEV WEBSITE
The www.cev.eu websites (which includes the CEV Database) is the official platform of the CEV, which provides volley sports fans and content partners across the globe with the best news, information, statistics and documents from the world of European Volley.
This service and the necessity to publish and share information and documents related to Volleyball is the reason why the CEV collects and processes your personal data.
- PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED
For the reasons mentioned in the section 2, the CEV may collect from you the following Personal Data:
- Name;
- Gender;
- Date of birth;
- Nationality;
- Country of residence;
- Federation of Origin;
- Photography;
- Address;
- Email;
- Phone number;
- Other personal documents (Medical Certificates, , Statistics, etc.).
The Personal Data collected are necessary for administering your account and providing you with access to the Personal Area.
By accessing or using the Website, Database or the Personal Area, or submitting your personal information to the Website, Database or the Personal Area, you agree to CEV's use of such data, including the Personal Data and certain other information, in accordance with the CEV Privacy Policy.
All data collected in the system will be processed in line with this Privacy Policy. From the Personal Area, you can see all the personal data the CEV collected from you and be able to ask for rectifications or erasure of his/her data.
These operations will be managed by the CEV who will receive the request from you through the online system. The personal area is available only to registered users.
When the use of Personal Data is based on your consent, you have the option to withdraw your consent to the processing and delete your personal data at any time by clicking on the “delete” buttons provided in the Personal Area.
We keep the personal information related to you until the account is active. You may delete your personal account by clicking on the “delete” button provided in the Settings of your account.

- PERSONAL DATA PROVIDED TO US BY YOU AND PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED AUTOMATICALLY
First of all, when providing us with your personal data, the CEV kindly requests you to refrain from supplying us with any additional unsolicited personal data. In particular, the CEV requests you to refrain from supplying us with personal data related to:
- Your racial and ethnic origin, and/or;
- Your political opinions, and/or;
- Your religious and philosophical beliefs, and/or;
- Your trade union membership, and/or;
- Data concerning your health, and/or;
- Data concerning your sex life or sexual orientation.
In order to provide certain functionalities when you access our Website or Database, the CEV also automatically receives and records non-sensitive personal data on its technical infrastructure logs about your computer, regardless of whether you have registered for an account or are just browsing our servers. The CEV may collect, including but not limited to, your Web browser software, your internet protocol (IP) address, information relating to the CEV's cookies, the referring website and the page you requested. The CEV may also collect information about your location with your consent, and our online activity on the CEV website or Database.
- THE USE OF THE PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED FROM YOU
There are several reason why we use your personal data. In the most cases, it is about measuring your behaviour on our Website or Database, and based on that, create personalized experiences. More specifically the CEV uses personal data collected to:
- Improve technical requirements of the CEV website and Database;
- Create a better and more personal content for your use;
- Organize CEV competitions;
- Measure on how users browse and behave on the CEV website and CEV Database;
- Provide the opportunity to log in to our website or database and enable users to use login-based functionalities;
- Provide you with our content services such as newsletter service;
- Notify you in case you participated in a prize game;
- Server personalized advertising to our users in order to increase the accuracy of our advertising.
- LEGAL GROUNDS TO PROCESS YOUR DATA
In order to process your personal data, we may rely on the different legal grounds, including:
- Your consent, insofar as it is legally required or permitted;
- The necessity to establish a contractual relationship with you and to perform our obligations under the concerned contract;
- The necessity for us to comply with legal obligations to establish, exercise, or defend ourselves from legal claims;
- The necessity to pursue our legitimate interests, including, but not limited to:
- Improving the user experience and understanding how you behave on our Website and Database;
- Improving the security and performance of our Website and Database;
- To administer and generally conduct sport activities within the CEV.
- INFORMATION SHARING AND DISCLOSURE
The CEV may transfer your data to third parties who perform functions on our behalf, such as IT service suppliers, consultants and any other third party processing personal data on behalf of the CEV.
This covers in particular third-party processors in the context of online advertising campaigns that are carried out by the CEV, especially on social networks. The CEV requires such parties to maintain appropriate security standards to protect your personal data. Unless otherwise stated, these third parties are prohibited to use the personal data the CEV provides to them beyond what is necessary to provide the product or service to you.
The CEV may also share your personal data with other third parties like carefully selected partners and CEV Member Associations if the CEV has your consent to do so, for example if you have opted in to receive information or offers, and for other reasons consistent with the purpose for which the data were originally collected or for other purposes authorized by law.
The CEV may also transfer your personal data to relevant third parties if:
- The CEV needs to send the data to the police/state authorities, in particular to carry out security or administrative controls in relation to venues or events you have requested access to.
- The CEV needs to comply with court or authority orders.
- The CEV finds that it is necessary, as determined in CEV’s sole discretion, to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, and emergency situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any persons, violations to our Terms or as otherwise required or permitted by law.
Before disclosing your personal data to third parties, the CEV will ensure that sufficient security measures and adequate data protection are guaranteed by the third party and take reasonable steps to ensure compliance with those measures.
As part of its internal data auditing process, the CEV may conduct regular checks on processing by third parties, especially with respect to security measures.
- DATA RETENTION AND ARCHIVING
The CEV does not, as a matter of business practice, retain personal data longer than necessary for the purposes stated and to comply with legal requirements, unless otherwise agreed by you.
- HOW DO WE SECURE YOUR DATA
The CEV uses all available technical and organizational security measures in order to protect your personal data against a breach of security leading to the accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure of, or access to, your personal data transmitted, stored or otherwise processed.
The CEV employees are required to keep personal data confidential. The CEV employees will only transfer your personal data to third parties as described in Section 8 of this Notice.

II- CEV privacy notice for players, teams officials and officials
- WHAT THIS PRIVACY NOTICE COVERS
This Privacy Notice applies to the way CEV handles personal data collected for your participation in CEV’s competitions or when you otherwise interact with CEV, and tells you the types of personal data CEV may collect, how it will be processed, the third parties to whom it may be forwarded and how long CEV will keep it. It also explains your rights with respect to that personal data.
- HOW DO WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA?
Certain personal data collected and processed by CEV comes from direct interactions with you and includes the details provided by you and your club, league or Volleyball member association, or by other third parties, such as FIVB or the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
- WHAT PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT AND HOW WE USE IT
The types of personal data we collect and the purpose of processing it varies according to your relationship with us. ‘Personal data’ means any information that may be linked directly or indirectly to you as an individual.
Please note that some of the personal data you provide may be considered sensitive or attract special category status under Art. 9 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation. This may, for example, be information about political opinions, religious beliefs, physical or mental health or a photo showing your ethnic origin.
CEV competitions and events
When you take part in a CEV competition or event, we may collect and process the following types of information for administrative and accreditation purposes:
- Personal information, such as your full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, and legal representative in the case of minors
- Bank details for the Supervisors and Referees
- Professional information, such as your club(s), position, professional experience and skills
- Contact information, such as your phone number, address and email address
- Travel information, such as your accommodation and travel details
- Photography
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played
- Athletes’ height, weight, and the reach (block, spike)
- social media accounts
This enables us to run CEV competitions and events, facilitate your registration, carry out pre-registration measures (contract performance) and payments when needed.
Transfers regulations
When you are involved in an International Transfer between to European Country, we may collect and process the following types of information:
- Personal information, such as your full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, ID or Passport and legal representative in the case of minors
- Professional information, such as your club(s), position, contract with the club, professional experience and skills
- Contact information, such as your phone number, address and email address
Anti-doping regulations
When you take part in a CEV competition or event, we may collect and process the following types of information:
- a) To plan doping controls at any moment and ensure that players to be tested are designated in a way that maximises efficiency and fairness:
- Personal information, such as your full name, gender, date of birth and nationality
- Professional information, such as your club(s) and position
- Medical information such as your biological profiles (past anti-doping results, general health data) and your whereabouts information
- b) To collect your biological (blood and urine) samples to ensure that you do not use banned substances to enhance your performance:
- Personal information, such as your full name, gender and date of birth
- Professional information, such as your club(s) and position
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played
- Medical information, such as sample legal information (date and place, name and signature of player representative), sample technical information (label number of each sample, precise time when the sample was taken), declaration of medication (diagnosis, substances used, dose, start and end of treatment) and result of the anti-doping test
- c) To collect your therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs) to ensure that you have a valid medical justification for using potentially banned substances:
- Personal information, such as your full name, gender and date of birth
- Professional information, such as your club(s) and position
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played
- Medical information, such as your treatment information: diagnosis, medical justification, substances used, start and end of the treatment
- d) To establish whether a player/club/other person is guilty of violating anti-doping regulations and impose any necessary disciplinary sanctions:
- Personal information, such as your full name, gender and date of birth
- Professional information, such as about your club(s) and position
- Sports data, such of records of matches you have played
- Medical information, such as sample legal information (date and place, name and signature of player representative), sample technical information (label number of each sample, precise time when the sample was taken), declaration of medication (diagnosis, substances used, dose, start and end of treatment) and result of the anti-doping test
This processing is justified by our legitimate interests to regulate and govern CEV competitions and associated activities in an effective and lawful manner, take measures to eliminate doping in Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball by carrying out anti-doping testing, and comply with health and safety obligations. When sensitive or special categories of personal data need to be collected or processed, we will always ask for your specific consent.
Disciplinary and integrity cases
When you take part in a CEV competition or event, we may collect and process the following types of information:
- a) To establish whether a player/club/other person is guilty of violating CEV rules and regulations or any other sports regulations and impose disciplinary sanctions:
- Personal information, such as your full name, date of birth, gender and nationality
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Contact information, such as your address, telephone number and email address
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played and disciplinary actions against you
- b) To investigate specific match situations or disputes, hear stakeholders’ testimony and determine appropriate sanctions:
- Personal information, such as your full name
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played, disciplinary actions against you and information about your performance
- c) To detect matches that might have been fixed, maintain integrity and prevent crime and corruption in Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball:
- Personal information, such as your full name
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played, including disciplinary actions against you and information about your performance
- d) To apply measures designed to protect the integrity of a CEV competition or event:
- Personal information, such as your full name
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played, disciplinary actions against you and information about your performance
This processing is justified by our legitimate interests to regulate and govern CEV competitions and associated activities in an effective and lawful manner, deal with legal disputes involving you or other players and investigate integrity breaches.
Performance analysis and match data
When you take part in a CEV competition or event, we may collect and process the following types of information:
- a) To provide live data for the public reporting of certain CEV competitions and for the participating teams for the purposes of their own tactical analysis:
- Personal information, such as your full name, date of birth and nationality
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Tracking data, such as live on-field tracking and performance data for certain matches
- Tactical feed, such as specific tailored coaching/tactical feed
- b) To provide live data to the CEV Betting and Integrity partners for the purposes of live betting:
- Personal information, such as your full name, date of birth and nationality
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played and information about your performance
- Media data, such as photographs, images, videos, media and audio recordings of you
- c) To use analysis, statistics, data and other information in view of the public reporting about CEV competitions and events and their promotion, as well as for archiving and statistical purposes:
- Personal information, such as your full name, date of birth and nationality
- Professional information, such as your club(s)
- Sports data, such as records of matches you have played and information about your performance
- Media data, such as photographs, images, videos, media and audio recordings of you
- d) To monitor the evolution of the game and identify educational needs, including the preparation and delivery of CEV’s technical reports:
- Tracking data, such as live on-field tracking and performance data for some matches
- Tactical feed, such as specific tailored coaching/tactical feed
This processing is justified by our legitimate interests to record information about participants in CEV competitions and events, promote and commercialise CEV competitions and events, and enhance the fan experience in-stadium, online and during game telecasts.
When sensitive or special categories of personal data need to be collected or processed, we will always ask for your specific consent.
Communication
If we need to interact with you, we may collect and process the following types of information:
- Personal information, such as your full name, gender, date of birth, nationality, and legal representative in the case of minors
- Contact information, such as your address, telephone number and email address
This processing is justified by our legitimate interests to contact you.
Legal obligation and emergencies
We may also use your personal data for other purposes, which includes sharing it with third parties, when we need to comply with a legal obligation (for example, because a court has ordered us to do so) or to protect yours or someone else’s vital interests in emergency situations. In such cases, we may not have time or even be legally required to inform you.

- PERSONAL DATA SHARING AND DISCLOSURE
We may share your personal data:
- between ourselves (CEV and its subsidiaries) for internal reasons, primarily for business (promoting CEV competitions), administrative and operational purposes (such as managing CEV competitions and events, statistics tabs, research projects, technical reports or individual investigations), in line with this Privacy Notice;
- with external third parties acting on our behalf and providing us with services, such as technology providers and hosting companies, analytics companies and medical professionals, and which comply with similar and equally stringent undertakings of privacy and confidentiality;
- with clubs or national teams taking part in CEV competitions, for their own administrative use and internal tactical or statistical analysis, or to inform them about any disciplinary decisions, anti-doping test results or injury study reports;
- with various CEV commissions and bodies responsible for monitoring the compliance with CEV rules and regulations as well as with other sports bodies, such as FIVB or WADA, that are responsible for ensuring compliance with sports regulations;
- with broadcasters covering CEV competitions and for use on websites and social media, including for the purposes of incorporating a limited subset of tracking data into the multilateral feed and support commentary;
- with media, to incorporate certain information and statistics in the match press kits or any media support;
- with selected sponsors, for the delivery of additional services on cev.eu;
- with CEV commercial partners, for the performance of contracts in line with CEV competitions;
- with certain third parties pursuant to court orders or warrants;
- with police and state authorities in particular to carry out security or administrative checks at CEV competitions or events you will attend;
- with third parties, for which you give us express permission to do so from time to time over the course of your relationship with us.
- FORWARDING PERSONAL DATA
Your personal data is generally stored within France and the EEA but in limited circumstances it may be forwarded to suppliers located outside France or the EEA, including in the US. In such cases, we ensure adequate security measures are taken to offer equivalent protection as within Luxembourg and the EEA and in compliance with applicable data protection laws. We have instituted EU model contractual clauses as an adequate safeguard for forwarding data outside France and the EEA. - DATA RETENTION AND ARCHIVING
Personal data processed by CEV will be retained only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined above. This will generally, though not in all cases, be for the duration of your contract with us, to comply with our legal obligations, or to protect CEV’s rights. When determining the relevant retention periods for your personal data, we will consider factors such as:
- Our contractual obligations and rights in relation to the personal data concerned
- Legal obligation(s) to retain data for a certain period of time under applicable law or sports regulations
- Statutes of limitations under applicable law(s),
- Our legitimate interests, for which we have carried out balancing tests (see Section 3 on above)
