The Hall also plays as hosts to the Berlin Recycling Volleys, Germany's most decorated volleyball club with 10 Bundesliga titles and a CEV cup title in 2015/2016. Match Report

KEMEROVO get their first away win in the Champions League

Article 18 December 2019

Kuzbass KEMEROVO didn't allow themselves to make a mistake this time around. Where last week they gave away a lead to lose in five sets, in Berlin they were quite sure to not let that happen again. So BERLIN Recycling Volleys only got a taste of victory in the third set, Gheorghe Cretu's squad won if four.

This Match of the Week was played in the venue that will feature in the CEV Tokyo Volleyball European Qualification 2020 for men this coming January. The volleyball minded Germans came out in big number with 4,311 present in the Max Schmeling-Halle. The predominant orange dressed crowd saw Kuzbass take a 2-0 lead, despite the efforts of setter Sergey Grankin and hit American attackers.

BR Volleys's opposite Kyle Ensing lead the charge in the third, getting the hopes of the crowd up. Only to see them shattered in the fourth, where the match's MVP Anton Karpukhov shone with 6 points to make his total of 18. This is the first away win ever in the Champions League for Kuzbass KEMEROVO, who now lead Pool B in front of Fakel NOVY URENGOY. BERLIN are third, while ACH Volley LJUBLJANA remain in fourth.

Jeffrey Jendryk, middle-blocker for BERLIN Recycling Volleys: "Kemerovo served and passed really well. They are a strong team and they knew how to show that today in front of our home crowd. In the third set we were aggressive enough to battle with them. But at the end we had to deal with a well serving outside spiker Karpukhov, who decided this match."

Cedric Enard, Head Coach of BERLIN Recycling Volleys: "It’s tough because the frustration is high today. We had a bad start and were not ready to fight. During the third set we find our passion together with our spectators. They pushed us really well but finally our reception was not as good as it should have been."
