Article

The game between ACH Volley Ljubljana and Fakel Novy Urgengoy was the last game of Pool B in the 4th Round. The Russian side have already earned qualification to quarterfinals after Leg 5, but needed a victory to win their Pool. From other hand, ACH Volley had only one win and no chance to progress to next stage. Both sides opened the game nervously, making mistakes, but also being motivated to clos the pool play in good mood. Fakel earned a meaningful advantage in the middle of the opening set, jumping to 16-11. Both teams struggled with problems in attack. Once, the Russian block was like a wall, as they scored 7 points in this element, 4 of them were an effort of Dmitrii Kolenkovskii. Thus, Fakel got closer to their goal and lost their concentration. At the beginning of the next set, the hosts being supported by their fans stayed 2-3 points ahead, which they improved to 16-9 and 22-14. Then, Fakel started their crazy pursuit which finished at 23-22. The Russians saved one set point, but eventually the hosts won 25-23. They kept the momentum also in thrid set, opening it 3-0 and increasing it towards the whole set with great attacks from Bozidar Vucicevic and impressive plays in defense. The fourth part was a comeback of Fakel, who improved their advantage on court step by step, taking this part. The decisive part was full of unexpected twists. Fakel jumped to lead, but then Ljubljana was close to catch the score. Eventually, Fakel with great finish close this part and sealed win in Pool B. Denis Bogdan scored match-high 24 points.
